Part 1, the invasion of Okinawa is planned by Adms. Nimitz, Mitscher, and Turner and Gens. Buckner and H.M. Smith. Shows amphibious landings on islands in the Kerama group by the 77th Div. and the 305th Regimental Combat Team after naval bombardments. Troops advance, fight, and question natives and Japanese prisoners. Okinawa is heavily shelled with guns and rockets and then invaded (Apr. 1) by the 10th Army and the Marine 3rd Amphib. Corps. Landing craft are unloaded (Reel 2), troops move inland, and attacking enemy planes are downed. Part 2, the 475th Regt. flies from Burma to Kunming, China, and occupies quarters (SFR only). A British amphibious force captures Taungup, Bur. A strong fortress in Mandalay is bombarded by planes and guns. Adm. Mountbatten inspects the captured position (Mar. 20). Part 3 (CB only) shows and describes the P-80 "Shooting Star." Part 3 (CB part 4) shows ground and aerial views of a 5th Army ordnance pool of vehicles in Italy. Part 4 (CB part 5; reel 3), the 6th Armored Div. and the 5th Inf. battle across a bridge in Frankfort, Ger., and clean up final resistance (Mar. 29). The 7th Army speeds toward Heidelberg and liberates French citizens in the city. Fighters start fires in Aschaffenburg. The 12th, 9th, 7th, and 3rd Armored Divs. fight and advance in various sectors.
